Emirates will fly in to mark the 20th anniversary and start the flight in Vienna. On May 1, 2004, an Emirates aircraft landed in the Austrian capital for the first time, and just one month later a daily connection to Dubai was established. Emirates now flies to Vienna 14 times a week and offers connections to 143 international destinations. Since the first flight, more than 5 million passengers have used the Vienna-Dubai route on over 20,500 flights.
Under the direction of Country Manager Elisabeth Zauner, the anniversary is being celebrated in Vienna with a kissing event. A show by the Viennese dance school Svabek welcomed yesterday’s afternoon flight at Vienna Airport. Emirates is also giving upgrades to its Skywards members as a thank you. In 2014, the Emirates A380 landed in Vienna for the first time, piloted by Austrian pilot Markus Ausserhofer, which represented a milestone for Vienna Airport.
Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, praised the long-standing partnership and Emirates’ contribution to the development of the airport. Since 2004, Emirates SkyCargo has also been carrying out cargo transport to and from Vienna, transporting over 120,000 tons of cargo. Cargo capacity is currently 31 tons per day.
