Lufthansa has decided to remove the flight connection between Frankfurt and Beijing from its flight schedule.
The reason for this is the excessively long flight times and the strong competition from Chinese airlines, which are still allowed to fly over Russia, while European airlines have to accept detours. This has significantly weakened the margins in China traffic. Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr announced the discontinuation of the route to employees. The capacity of flights to China had already been reduced to 57 percent of the crisis level. The route was most recently served with an Airbus A340-300, while the Munich-Beijing connection remains with the Airbus A350. Other European airlines, such as British Airways, have also suspended their connections to China.
