aviation: Ticket tax: The Netherlands also wants those transferring to pay

Some European countries levy ticket taxes, which usually exclude transfer passengers, in order to give the respective hub carrier a competitive advantage. There is now a push in the Netherlands to end this practice.

It is currently being discussed at parliamentary level that travelers who change planes at Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport will also be asked to pay in the future. The income should be used to support the local population in connection with high energy costs.

Both KLM and Schiphol Airport have already taken a defensive stance, warning that an approval by the Dutch Senate will have a significant impact on the Amsterdam hub. Those transferring would then switch to other airports for cost reasons.
